Pompeo says US actively dissuading Europe from Nord Stream-2
WASHINGTON/BRUSSELS, Jun 28 (PRIME) -- The U.S. is working actively with the European goverments and business to dissuade them from participating in Russia’s Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said late on Wednesday.
The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Gazprom will implement the project together with its European partners – Shell, OMV, Engie, Uniper, and Wintershall.
European Commission Vice President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic said in a Twitter post that liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the U.S. can have a big impact on diversification of the sources of E.U. gas supply.
